A matched Tele bridge and humbucker neck pickup combo built around Keith Richards Micawber Tele specs.  I initially built a few of these for Adelaide based Guitarist Gary for his Keith Richards clone and after a stella review by Gary I have decided to offer them as a model.  The review can be seen on the Happy Customer and custom pickups pages.  This set will work for both right and left handed guitars.

My “Ol Keithy”  Tele bridge pickup is based on the old overwound ’50s Fender Lapsteel pickups.  Keith Richards apparently owns the World’s stock pile of vintage specimens all for good reason.  I wind these like the originals with 43 AWG Plain enamel wire to 10k to produce a tall thin coil.  When fully open this pickup has sharp bite clean and nice and crispy and bitey with drive.  Winding back the tone it fattens up giving this pickup a broad tonal range.

  • Alnico 3 .195 inch magnets ’50s no stagger
  • 43 AWG dark plain enamel wire
  • Wound to 10k
  • Cloth pull back vintage style wire
  • Black string
  • Copper plated steel baseplate
  • Stainless screws and rubber mounts
  • Wax potted to prevent feedback

For the neck I use one of my tried and tested 7.4k Vintage PAF spec humbuckers.  The moderate output and alnico 2 magnet give this pickup a fairly fat warm tone.  I can tune this pickup in with it flipped like Keith’s Tele with screws towards the bridge or standard with them towards the neck heel.

  • 49.2mm spacing between the poles
  • 42 AWG Plain enamel wire 7.4k
  • Alnico 2 magnet
  • Gibson style braided lead
  • Available in chrome, nickel or rustic bare nickel cover (Please specify)
  • Wax potted to prevent feedback
  • Stainless screws and springs

Outstanding pickups with amazing tonal range, everything from crisp tight clean classic Tele to warm fat overdriven sounds. Absolutely delighted with them, I’ll be going back to Dave for more sets soon.

Amazing pickups, totally transformed my rather average MIJ Tele into my favourite player, totally nails that Exile sound
